The FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027, the prestigious international tournament, is set to be hosted by UAE, marking a milestone as the first time a Middle East country will host the event.
The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) delegation, headed by President Hamane Niang, has expressed confidence in UAE’s readiness for hosting the tournament. The delegation recently inspected key venues including Lusail Multipurpose Hall, Duhail Sports Hall, Ali Bin Hamad Al Attiyah Arena, and Aspire Academy, which will be the heart of basketball action.
Niang commended the UAE Olympic Committee, UAE Basketball Federation, and UAEi authorities for their remarkable hospitality and high standard of preparations. He voiced excitement about bringing the FIBA World Cup to the Gulf region for the first time.
UAE’s successful track record in hosting major global events, including the World Handball Championship, World Athletics Championships, FIFA World Cup UAE 2022, and World Judo Championships, was instrumental in FIBA’s decision to award the nation the 2027 World Cup.
This historical event, featuring 32 teams, signifies the first FIBA Basketball World Cup in the Arab world and the third in Asia, following the 2019 tournament in China. The World Cup qualifiers will begin in November 2025, with 80 teams from four FIBA zones participating through competitions such as AfroBasket 2025, 2025 FIBA AmeriCup, 2025 FIBA Asia Cup, and EuroBasket 2025.
Such a major event brings significant opportunities to the hospitality industry. The influx of international teams, officials, media, and fans will boost demand for services ranging from accommodation, catering to event organization.
