DUBAI: After two years of standing still, the world’s biggest Ferris wheel — Ain Dubai — might be about to reopen, its owners said.
A representative of property company Dubai Holdings said that the tourist attraction, which stands more than 250 meters (820 feet) tall, had been undergoing maintenance but that the end could be in sight.
“We have no official date yet, but it may open within the next few months,” Nathan Marchon said.
Any further information about a possible restart date would be released on the official Ain Dubai website, he said.
Arab News spoke to Marchon after the huge wheel was seen revolving on Wednesday.
Opened in October 2021 on Blue Waters Island, Ain Dubai has 48 capsules and can carry up to 1,750 people. Soon after making its debut, Dubai’s Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan Al-Maktoum was photographed kneeling on top of one of the capsules drinking a mug of tea.
Despite setting a record for the world’s largest Ferris wheel — it is almost twice as tall as the London Eye — Ain Dubai stopped turning in March 2022.
At the time it was said the pause would be for just two months.
