Dubai World Cup 2024: Massive drone show plans announced for world record during closing ceremony

The $30.5 million horseracing event remains the richest in the world, with the highlight being the $12 million Dubai World Cup

This year’s running of the Dubai World Cup promises to be the biggest yet with several records expected on the day.

The $30.5 million horseracing event remains the richest in the world, with the highlight being the $12 million Dubai World Cup.

Held at the Meydan Racecourse on March 30, the event will feature nine top-class races attracting entries from 14 countries. Over 150 countries are set to broadcast the action globally, the Dubai Media Office (DMO) said in a statement.

New Guinness World Record planned for Dubai World Cup

A new Guinness World Record is expected during the closing ceremony. Organisers plan a 33-minute aerial drone display involving 4,000 specialised drones.

These will form three-dimensional sculptures in the sky for viewers both at the venue and watching worldwide.

“We are hugely excited about the 2024 Dubai World Cup, the 28th running of the event. Horses from 14 countries will compete across the nine races, ensuring global interest and media coverage. We have also received more than 400 media accreditation applications, further showing the interest in the meeting among race fans. Our team at the Dubai Racing Club has worked tirelessly all season to ensure that we reach World Cup night thoroughly prepared and determined to follow in the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum,” Chairman of Dubai Racing Club Sheikh Rashed bin Dalmook Al Maktoum said.

30 Group 1 winners from around the globe, including six from last year, will compete on a card packed with quality.

Sheikh Rashed promised spectators “will see something they haven’t seen before” in the planned closing ceremony but remained tight-lipped on details.

Media accreditation has exceeded 400, demonstrating global fan interest ahead of the 28th Dubai World Cup.
