In a recent study by InterNations, the UAE has secured a spot among the top 10 countries globally for expatriates to live and work in 2024.
Highlighted for its expat-friendly environment, the UAE excels in key categories such as minimal bureaucratic hurdles and straightforward immigration laws. The country leads in the Expat Essentials Index for Language and Administrative Topics, where Arabic proficiency, while beneficial, is deemed manageable by most expats.
Under the leadership of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the UAE has embarked on the ambitious “Zero Government Bureaucracy Programme,” aimed at eliminating 2,000 procedures and enhancing hundreds of government services within a year, showcasing its commitment to efficiency and ease of doing business.
Expats in the UAE have expressed highly positive sentiments about the economy and local job market, ranking them first and fourth globally. A significant 76% of respondents believe their move to the UAE has bolstered their career prospects, well above the global average. Despite challenges in accommodation affordability due to rising rental prices, 64% find obtaining housing relatively straightforward.
InterNations’ rankings also underscore the UAE’s quality of life, placing it 10th overall and third globally for factors including government environmental policies, robust infrastructure, and political stability. Both Abu Dhabi and Dubai have seen notable improvements in global city rankings, underscoring their attractiveness as expat hubs.
Safety remains a cornerstone of expat satisfaction in the UAE, with high marks for personal safety and political stability. Healthcare availability and quality are also well-regarded, though affordability is an area for improvement.
With its vibrant cultural scene, diverse culinary offerings, and strong leisure amenities, the UAE continues to cement its status as a premier destination for expatriates worldwide, joining Panama, Mexico, and Indonesia in the coveted top 10 list.
For expatriates seeking a dynamic blend of career opportunities and quality of life, the UAE remains a compelling choice in 2024.
